Location Activity DescriptionGoogle Earth Content
1. Meissen Germany
Meissen is the sister-city of Provo, for the first activity I will include a link to this website explaining what a sister-city is.

I will probably include a picture of the Meissen.

2. Albrecht's Castle this is a major feature in the town, for this activity they will make observations and write how they think its similar to and different from the salt lake temple, which is a large feature near by Provo.

picture of albretch's castle and salt lake temple

3.Elbe River
The city of Meissen is located on the banks of the Elbe River, the activity will be comparing it to the provo river.

Ideally, I will include a picture of the river and have the students measure it with the ruler tool.

4. porcelain manufacturing
In Meissen they have extensive deposits of china clay so they make a lot of porcelain. in utah we have the kennecott copper mine.
have links explaining the difference things you can make with copper and with porcelain

for this I will probably have pictures of the different mines or products that are made from the raw materials.

I chose objective 3 from standard 1 for third grade curriculum that emphasizes analyzing the "ways cultures use, maintain, and preserve the physical environment". I chose this because I thought it would be interesting to see the differences between the sister-cities of Provo and Meissen, and how each city uses their surroundings. I chose this topic because I think the idea of having a sister-city is interesting, and I doubt that many of my students would know what a sister-city is, let alone that Provo has one. I think Google Earth is a good approach to take because Meissen is a place that they probably haven't heard of, and Google Earth gives them a chance to understand the surroundings in a detailed and extensive way, as opposed to searching for random images online.

Digital story telling project

The Blogs that I visited to view different digital stories were:

1. Kaylee
"The one thing I will not eat"

2. Riena's movie
"All Bees Can"

3. Mary Ann Keller
"washing hands PSA"

4. Beth
"Halloween ABC's"

5. Rebecca peek
"for the best"

6. Carol hoffer
"goin' fishin"

I think that there could be several difficulties implementing digital storytelling in an elementary classroom. The biggest problem I can foresee happening would be each child needing a lot of individualized help, because technology can be extremely difficult especially when its being introduced as a new idea. Also, it could be difficult to implement because some students may not have the means to work on the assignment at home but may need the extra time, so that could cause quite a bit of difficulty. As long as these issues were planned for and preventative action could be taken, digital storytelling would be a extremely fun activity!

TPACK and storyboard

I couldnt figure out how to arrange my storyboard better but here it is. I haven't gotten it OK'd, but I was planning on telling the story of the three little pigs using paper cut outs that I would draw and also using start/stop animation.

The TPACK framework is a way of thinking about how you integrate technology into your teaching. It stands for Technological Pedagogical And Content Knowledge. the seven different types are Pedagogical knowledge, Content knowledge, technological knowledge, Technological knowledge, Pedagogical content knowledge, Technological pedagogical knowledge, and Technological pedagogical and content knowledge. It is important for teachers to be familiar with TPACK because doing so will mean that they are familiar with technology and know the most effective ways to use

it within specific domains and specific aspects of their curriculum

week 2 assignment

Creating the Wiki that was required for this weeks assignment was extremely difficult and time consuming for me, but I definitely feel like it was an extremely useful experience for me. learning how to create such a practical tool for the classroom will be come in handy in the future, and I'm glad that I was given an opportunity to learn how to do it now when I have the time. Learning how to embed videos and documents in the page was also something that took me quite a while to figure out, but once I got the hang of it, became fairly easy. Despite how informative and helpful this assignment was, I'm glad that its over. :)

As you can see, I've included the screen shot of Professor Graham and I video chatting, as well as a screen shot of me sending a video message over facebook.

My Technology Background

My Technology background is probably average for someone my age. Word processing was taught at my elementary school and I took the course in 3rd or 4th grade. In Junior High we had technology classes where we learned computer basics such as how to effectively research topics, how to use paint, how to use powerpoint, and so on. I had access to the internet and these programs at home, which allowed me to practice and get pretty good at these programs. In high school I took classes that taught me how to use photoshop, flash, and how to create websites. In college I (finally) learned how to use excel. Technology has always been good to me so I'm good back.
