voice thread demo week 8

here's my voice thread on my lesson

1. Leslie--Sink or Float
2. Kaylee--weather tracking
3. Kate--phases of the moon

After viewing these blogs, I was amazed at the different lesson plans my peers came up with and I would love to implement them in my classroom! also, after viewing the different voicethreads I started getting really excited about using kidspiration in my classroom. It seems like such a valuable resource that is also very versatile and easy to use. I am amazed at how much we can explore using these different programs and hope that my students will be smarter than I was because of all of these resources!

week 7

My technology enhanced activity is going to be for a 3rd grade class and we will be observing the appearance of the earth and the moon. We will use world wind and google earth to observe the similarities and differences between the surfaces of the earth and the moon (and possibly a few other planets!). After we gather information on the different planets we will use kidspiriation to make diagrams, concept maps, or any other presentation, to display the information the children have learned.

1. The content of my lesson will be focusing on the appearance of the earth and the moon.
2. The pedagogy I will use is having sufficient knowledge of the technology I’m using the classroom and having sufficient knowledge of the earth and moon to carry the lesson and to be able to answer questions. This is a good fit because it will help the children to learn about our solar system in a more hands-on, self directed way. This pedagogy is also a good fit because the technology is directly related to what we are trying to learn.
3. The technology I’m going to use is world wind, google earth, and kidspiration. These technologies are related to the content because google earth and world wind will allow us to view the earth and moon, which is the objective of the lesson. It goes well with the pedagogoy because it will show my knowledge of the content and it will help the students learn the lesson in a positive, enjoyable way.

Google Earth Tour

This is my virtual tour of Meissen, Germany

The three virtual tours I watched were Kaylee's which was about natural disasters, Aubrianne's which was on Italy, and Victoria's which was on important battles of the Civil war. I think that implementing virtual tours in elementary classrooms would be an excellent idea. it is an interesting way to learn about different places around the world in great detail and in a way that can give each student the freedom to explore. I also think that it is an excellent idea because it gives the children an opportunity to act as "tour guides" for their friends and family because they can show them the tour and involve them in their learning. The only negative I can imagine would be that making the tours involves a lot of coding which could get long and tedious, so I don't know if I would want to make a virtual tour every week because it could be time consuming.
